Rep. Darrell Issa: Republicans’ mission? Listen more, talk less

Donald Trump’s victory proved that most everything the pundits, reporters and the political class thought they knew was wrong. It turned years of political orthodoxy on its head, and, in its aftermath, left the political world looking for explanations for what happened and lessons to guide the future.
In the midst of it all, my great concern is that Republicans will misunderstand the most profound of these lessons and ignore the clear message voters sent us: that Washington needs to listen more, talk less and renew its focus on actually getting things done.
After all, Donald Trump didn’t campaign as a traditional Republican, and certainly did not confine his platform to a conventionally conservative ideology. Instead, he appealed to many Americans’ frustration, offering a simple promise to cut good deals and get things done for the better of our country. Restoring that singular focus on producing results is wise advice that all politicians — Republicans and Democrats alike — should take to heart sooner rather than later. …read more…
